Loving grandfather, life-long Islander, Vietnam War veteran, 73 John Pignata passed away peacefully in his sleep on Staten Island, N.Y. on Friday, October 7, 2022, after a long battle with kidney disease. John was born on November 30, 1948 in New Dorp and made his home on Staten Island where he raised a family with Catherine, his beloved wife of 46 years. John attended New Dorp High School. He was drafted into the United States Army in 1968 and served two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, and later as a reservist until 1974. John spent his professional career in telecommunications. He used his wartime experience as a field wire-man to build a career at New York Telephone, where he worked for twenty years. John enjoyed the company of his five grandchildren and leisure time with family and friends. He is survived by his two children, John and Mary; grandchildren, Jack, Emma, Annie, Joseph, and Luke; and children-in-law, James and Katherine. Viewing will be held on October 10th, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m at Harmon Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at the Blessed Sacrament Church on October 11th at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery.
