Jean Marie McNamara

Jean Lauria McNamara, 94, of West Brighton, Staten Island, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday morning, November 3, 2024, surrounded by her loving children. She was the cherished daughter of Rocco and Julia Lauria and the devoted wife of William J. McNamara, Esq., a retired NYC fireman.

Born in West Brighton, Jean graduated from Saint John Villa Academy and later attended Ballard Secretarial School in Manhattan. After completing her education, she worked at Conde Nast and Lord & Taylor, both in Manhattan. Jean married the love of her life, and together, they raised their seven children in Randell Manor, where she lived for over 50 years. She managed the gift shop at St. Vincent's Hospital for 20 years and co-owned the Irish Viking gift shop on Forest Avenue. An elegant lady with a wonderful sense of humor, Jean was filled with compassion and cherished her family and friends. She served as the pillar of her family, enjoyed Sunday dinners, and loved celebrating holidays with her loved ones.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, Rocco and Julia Lauria; her husband, William J. McNamara; her son, Robert McNamara; her brothers, Vincent and Pascual; and her sisters, Adeline, Josephine, and Rita.

She is survived by her sister, Doris McCahill; her six children, William McNamara, Thomas McNamara and his wife Antoinette, Peter McNamara and his wife Bariann, Laurie Bates and her husband William; Patricia McNamara, and Susan McNamara. Jean is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Thursday November 7, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Harmon Home for Funerals 571 Forest Avenue Staten Island NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 am at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church 10 Austin Place Staten Island NY. Interment to follow at Moravian Cemetery, Staten Island, NY.
