James “Jimmy” Lopez, a long time faithful resident of Staten Island, passed away on April 18th, he was 80 years old. James attended Curtis High School and graduated in 1962. After high school he followed in his father footsteps, a WWII veteran, and joined the Army where he proudly served his country in the 82nd Airborne from 1962 - 1965, and 1 year in the reserves. James, then having a desire to serve his community, became a member of the FDNY in 1968. He worked as a fireman in 230 Engine, 48 Truck and Rescue 2. In 1985 he was promoted to Lieutenant and would finish his career in Rescue 5 retiring in 1995 after 27 years of service to NYC. The FDNY would forever hold a special place in his heart. Even in his last days he would speak of the people he worked with and experiences they had together.
James is predeceased by his loving parents Santiago & Stella Lopez; his brothers Nelson & Steven. Surviving are his brother Robert and his wife Andrea; his beloved children Sandra and her husband Joe, James and his wife Karen, Joseph, Jennifer and her husband Bobby and Juliane her husband Eric. As well as 8 cherished grandchildren & 3 nephews.
James’ loss is deeply felt by his family, friends, and community. Though gone from our sight, James will forever remain in our hearts.
