Born Helena Leibrock in Manhattan, she spent most of her life in Oakwood, where she lived more than 50 years. She moved to Oceanside two years ago.
She worked for more than 20 years as a record receptionist at the Staten Island Medical Group, and also worked as a waitress at the Staaten in West Brighton. She retired about 20 years ago.
Mrs. Carlsen was an outgoing personality and a devoted mother who worked hard to provide for her two sons. She never missed a single sporting event her children where involved in, and always made sure to be available for any activities featuring her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
“Her whole life was built around her grandchildren and great-grandchildren,’ said her son, Ron Carlsen.
In addition to her son Ron, surviving are her son, John Carlsen; two granddaughters, and four great-grandchildren.
The funeral is tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. in the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners. Burial will be on Thursday at Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
