Dear Helen and son Randy,
Helen was a great friend of my mom, Elsie Bottone, also 92. They would talk on the phone and enjoy conversations, memories, photos and many jokes about life. They shared much, and we give our condolences.
Helen also loved cats and dogs (had many) and requested to give a donation to them, which we will certainly respect.

My deepest condolences to the McGrath Family, Helen was my late pass lady from 1972 - 1976, one of the nicest women. 
Years later I worked at the YMCA on Broadway where she was a member and I would see her frequently. A wonderful woman.

Hi Randy,
Nora sent me your mom's obit. I'm sorry for your loss but I think you must know how lucky you are to have had her as a mother and that she lived such a long life, hopefully without pain. To me, she was always a good, loving friend. I am still grateful to her for facilitating my daughter Susan's admittance to Wagner despite our living in the Curtis district. I am sure that after her passing,  Ray was there to greet her and facilitate her admittance to heaven, even though she was fully eligible because she was such a great soul.

Helen McGrath, born Helen Zinkiewicz, passed away in her home on October 31, 2017; her son Randy was with her when she died. Helen was born 92 years ago in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and moved to Sunnyside in 1932. She was married for 46 years to Daniel R. McGrath who passed away in 1991.

Helen was a graduate of Curtis High School.  After raising her three children, she became a School Aide (she was known as the Late-Pass Lady) at Susan B. Wagner High School, retiring after 25 years.  

She was a former member of Castleton Hill Moravian Church, Clove Lake Civic Association, Todt Hill Friendship Club, and the Staten Island Council for Animal Welfare. She contributed to many charities especially those involving animals (especially cats), and Lou Gherig's Disease (ALS).

Helen loved walking, dancing to the Jitterbug, Polka, and Rock and Roll. She also enjoyed swimming and corresponding with friends  sharing jokes and photos. She was a great hostess and she and her husband loved to have parties in their home  where a great time was had by all!

Helen's daughter, Maureen McGrath-Lynch predeceased her due to Lou Gherig's Disease (ALS). She is survived by her sons Daniel L. McGrath and Randy McGrath and by her granddaughter Julia Kete.  

Helen had told her son Randy that in lieu of flowers she wanted her friends to make donations to the Staten Island Council for Animal Welfare, or to the ALS Association (Lou Gherig's Disease).
