STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Longtime Staten Islander Gloria Lombardi, 87, of Dongan Hills, a homemaker who is remembered as fun-loving and generous, died Saturday in Staten Island University Hospital, Ocean Breeze.
Born Gloria Musante in Manhattan, she moved to Todt Hill with her husband, Carmine, in 1952, and the couple lived in 10 different Todt Hill sites. Her husband was a prominent builder, and they would live in whichever construction project he was working on, then move after each was completed.
She moved to Great Kills in 1998, and to Dongan Hills after Hurricane Sandy.
Mrs. Lombardi was a former member of the Banner Democratic Club and the Staten Island Garden Club.
She loved to visit casinos and go on cruises. She always looked forward to baby-sitting her grandchildren, and when they no longer needed a sitter, she would take care of her son’s West Highland terrier Max, whenever he and his family would go away.
“She was a fashion plate and fabulous cook, but more importantly, she always had the ability to find pleasure in giving,” said her daughter-in-law, Dorothy Lombardi.
Mrs. Lombardi was a parishioner of St. Ann’s R.C. Church, Dongan Hills.
Carmine, her husband of 48 years, died in 1995.
Surviving are her son, Albert; a brother, Joseph Musante; three grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Wednesday from the Casey Funeral Home, Castleton Corners, with a mass at 10 a.m. in St. Ann's Church. Burial will follow in Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp.
