Born and raised in the Bronx, he served in the U.S. Army in Korea during the 1950s. Mr. Ruocco moved to South Beach in 1974.
He worked as a supermarket manager for chains such as Pioneer and C-Town in Manhattan and Brooklyn, and retired in 2002.
"He was a very humble man, and the strong and silent type," said his son, Anthony. "He was very friendly, helpful to others, and a family man all the way through. He loved all his grandchildren," including Jason, who died at 18 years old.
Mr. Ruocco was an avid collector of baseball cards and memorabilia, and had "one whole room dedicated to that," his son added. He enjoyed bowling, softball, and baseball, and was a fan of 1950s rock-and-roll.
He was a longtime parishioner of Holy Rosary R.C. Church, South Beach.
In addition to his son, Anthony, he is survived by his wife of 48 years, the former Marie Canzoniero; two sons, Frank, Jr. and Joseph; his daughter, Victoria Meissner, and seven grandchildren.
The funeral service is Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Casey Funeral Home in Castleton Corners. Arrangements include cremation.
