Devoted Husband, Father and Grandfather – “Pappy” Edward Balsamo, 82 of Staten Island, NY died on Wednesday June 9, 2021. Born June 6, 1939 in Brooklyn, NY he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Balsamo.
A proud Army veteran, Edward served his time as a draftsman at the Pentagon in Washington, DC. Once he was discharged, Edward started his career as a draftsman where he retired 51 years later working alongside his two sons as the Service Manager for P S Marcato Elevator Co, in Long Island City, NY. In his free time, he played handball and loved to take violin lessons. His other hobbies included, reading, smoking a good cigar, listening to Frank Sinatra, watching Marilyn Monroe movies and the Godfather series and trying out new restaurants. He also never turned down fine wine or a good piece of cake.
Edward’s greatest joy was found with the time he spent with his family, especially his five grandchildren. He was a man of simple pleasures, who never asked for much but gave so much to others, asking nothing in return. To know him was to love him, especially his beautiful smile, bright white beard and personality that lite up the room when he entered it.
Edward is predeceased by his brother Joseph Balsamo, sister Lorraine Balsamo and nephew Joseph Prestia.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Carol; loving father to Clifford and Michael; loving Pappy to Nicholas; Alexandra; Olivia; Sophia and Christian and loving father in law to Tracy and Jessica.
Edward is also survived by his nieces and nephews. Edward will be affectionately remembered and sadly missed.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 14 from 2-4 and 7-9pm at Casey Funeral Home 350 Slosson Ave. Staten Island, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Teresa Church on Tuesday 10:45am. Interment to follow at Moravian Cemetery.
