Douglas Robert Wells, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, father-in-law and esteemed professional, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2024, at the age of 79 at The Mount Sinai Hospital, NY. Born to the late Cecelia Wells nee Groeber and Robert Wells on May 31,1945 in Queens, he later relocated to Dutchess County and then to Staten Island. Doug lived a full and accomplished life, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and achievement.
Doug earned his MBA from Rochester University in 1968, a testament to his dedication to education and professional excellence. His career with IBM spanned several decades, during which time he traveled widely across the world. Following his career at IBM he chose to spend his time helping people and became a Patient Ambassador at Mount Sinai Hospital. Known for his integrity and work ethic, Doug was a respected figure in his community and professional circles.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Doug honorably served his country in the United States Army as a Specialist 4 from 1969 to 1971. His service was a source of pride for him and his family, reflecting his deep sense of duty and patriotism.
Doug's warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support will be deeply missed by his family and friends. Doug was a devoted husband to his wife, Patricia. Their partnership was a beacon of love and support, serving as an inspiration to all who knew them. Two wonderful children, Ryan and Derek, were the pride and joy of Doug's life. He was a loving and supportive father, always encouraging his children to pursue their dreams and live life to the fullest. And they did…adding to the family three wonderful grandchildren Mason, Liam and Siena and two loving daughters-in-law Christine and Karen. Doug was blessed to have a sister, the late Marilyn Berry, who resided in Palm Coast, Florida at the time of her passing. Doug also enjoyed a wonderful relationship with his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and several nieces and nephews.
Doug enjoyed spending his free time with his family. He enjoyed traveling, running and later walking daily, gardening, reading, home projects, road trips to his home in Florida and watching Hallmark movies! He was especially proud of completing the NYC Marathon in 1984 in 3.30.54 time.
In appreciation of the outstanding care that Doug received during his final days at The Mount Sinai Hospital Palliative Care Unit, his family offers that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Mount Sinai Health System to support: The Lilian and Benjamin Hertzberg Palliative Care Institute.
