Geraldine (Kiker) Wheeler, 85, of Alexis was called to her heavenly home on Sunday January 28, 2024. Geraldine was at her home under the loving care of Gaston Hospice, surrounded by her family. Geraldine was born in Charlotte, NC on April 25, 1938. Geraldine was not shy about sharing her opinions. She would let you know what was on her mind. Geraldine worked for many years as a teacher’s assistant in the Charlotte Mecklenburg School System. She also had a green thumb, but the two most important things in Geraldine’s life were her faith and her family. Geraldine was a committed Christian. She was a long-time member of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Alexis. Geraldine was a member there for over 50 years. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, choir member and VBS volunteer. She was also a RA leader, a Meals on Wheels volunteer and active in the WMU. Geraldine was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed time with her family and she was notably the matriarch of her family. She will be truly missed.
Geraldine is the daughter of the late Avis (Starnes) Kiker and Robert Jackson Kiker. Her husband George Hamilton Wheeler, Sr. also precedes her in death. Also going on before Geraldine are her daughter, Teresa Annette Wheeler and her sister, Phyllis (Kiker) Ashe and brother Cleveland Craig Kiker.
Left to cherish their memories of Geraldine are her daughters, Gerri (Wheeler) Almond and her husband, Tommy, of Lucia and Georgia Anne (Wheeler) Fisher of Alexis and son George Hamilton Wheeler, Jr. and his wife, Barbara, of Alexis. Geraldine leaves behind five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Her sister, Jackie (Kiker) Morrison, of Oak Island, NC is also survives her.
A graveside service and committal will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday January 31, 2024 at Hillcrest Garden Cemetery, 1508 Charles Raper Jonas Highway, in Mount Holly. Geraldine will be laid to rest next to her husband, George Hamilton Wheeler, Sr. Reverends Ken Gibson and Nathan Morton, of Mount Zion Baptist Church will officiate.
