Tamarie George Sterling

Tamarie (T) lived an inspirational life, leaving a positive impact on all those he came into contact with. Tamarie George Sterling, was born on February 13, 1995 in Port Maria, St. Mary, Jamaica. He was the

second child of George and Elaine. They lived happily in Port Maria until; Tamarie, his sister and Dad moved to the States when he was only seven years old, with mom following a few years later. Tamarie settled into life in the vibrant city of Stamford. This was quite a change from the lifestyle of living in

Jamaica. Energetic, free-spirited and adventurous, the family offered Tamarie every opportunity to

express himself in his new environment. Tamarie first attended Rogers Magnet here in Stamford, where he quickly discovered how to begin his impacts, he was the student who was often the main topic of discussion, he eventually had to transition to Stark Elementary, and then to Dolan Middle School. It was at this point that Tamarie started truly integrating into the new culture and he surely made a trail in discovering himself, which Mr. Rinaldi can attest to. Tamarie went on to Stamford High where his love of Lacrosse was born and he became a “LAX Monster” “crispy with the rock” and having a “cannon”, other athletics were explored but never had the place like LAX did. Tamarie developed a quality of leadership, often sending others on his silly errands. He was also notoriously known for not taking disrespect from others, especially if you were on the opposing team. Tamarie went on to attend Greensboro College in 2013, joining the Greensboro PRIDE LAX team, where he graduated with a degree in 2017. He managed to maintain all the friends he acquired along the way from middle school, and still welcomed new friendships along the way in North Carolina. Family, friends and acquaintances were an important part of Tamarie’s life. In addition to friendships and music; food was an obsession of his, what or when you’re cooking was definitely a deciding factor if he hung out at your home. He was the biggest fan of his mom’s cooking, her fried chicken would encourage a drive to Connecticut just for a meal. He was often the indirect promoter or connect of every house party or event happening in Stamford and Greensboro. Famous for his humor, open acceptance of all, and also standing up to defend those who were not able to do so for themselves. Tamarie would often return to Stamford during his college breaks, to mentor and assist new Lacrosse players and to remind others that; you can accomplish great things, regardless of your beginnings or what society says. If you've been unfortunate to have met Tamarie you truly had missed out, but just take a look around you to get a glimpse of how he could bring an entire community together in an instant, regardless of age, ethnicity or orientation. Believe it or not, which most may be astonished at is that; T, came from a family that truly reveres and believes in the Lord, from birth he was an active member of a church in Jamaica. He followed through and became a brother in Christ to many at the Church of Christ in Stamford, where he was encouraged and supported by all his brothers and sisters in Christ. In January of 2017, Tamarie learned of his disease, This was the beginning of the call of God, summoning him to come home. It was truly a shock and deniable surprise for everyone as they learned of it. In true Tamarie fashion, he stood strong, kept his head up, often denying the effects as to not worry others on how he was truly feeling. Tamarie was committed to stay positive and displayed amazing strength in dealing with this disease. he summoned the advice of many but still made his own decisions on his life and what he wanted to do. He took many trips from specialist, doctors and other medical professional in NC, NY and CT. He valiantly and selfishly, resisted the pain of leaving us all until he felt like he had an opportunity to touch everyone’s, heart and gave them an opportunity to accept it as he had. He calmly and peacefully went on ahead of us on April 4th at the Stamford Hospital with his family, and esteemed loved ones near to him. T, would ask us to not cry because it’s over, but to rejoice, hold our chins up and smile, because his struggle and pain is finished. In the end, it’s not the years in his life that counts, but the life in his years In closing, we’d like to ask everyone to cherish his memories dearly in our hearts, continue the works of love and bravery that T displayed, allowing him to continue vicariously through us in our actions. Love everyone around you, cherish those you value, and leave no room for hatred, anger or animosity. Tamarie is survived by his mother Elaine, father George, sister Tanya Hamilton and Wayne her husband, his nephews Wayne and Tremaine, Grandmother's, Grandfather, Aunts, Uncles, cousins and a world of friends who have unending love for him with; Joe, Ryan, Justin, Darren and Coach Nazz being a few of his closest.
