Robert Bobby Scanlon

Robert “Bobby” Scanlon, 77, a native of Stamford passed away peacefully, after a brief illness, at the Stamford Hospital on Tuesday, February 21st, 2012 with his beloved family at his bedside. He was born October 9th, 1934 in Stamford and was the son of the late Asa W. Scanlon and Mary Elizabeth McGuire Scanlon.

Bobby is survived by his devoted son Randy Stebbins and his wife, Stephanie, his loving sister Kathleen Uva, twin brother Richard and brother Asa and wife Helen Scanlon, his cherished grandchildren Christopher Scanlon Jr., Randy Jr., Matthew and Ryan Stebbins, and many loving nieces and nephews. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Penny.

He was predeceased by his wife of 46 years, Ruth Scanlon, son Christopher Scanlon, Sister Ida Mae Deleo and brothers Jack and James Scanlon.

Bobby was a graduate of Stamford High School and served in the United States Army. Bobby worked with, and enjoyed operating, heavy equipment in the Stamford area. He was employed by many local contractors including Sal Longo, Roger Arnow and the Palmer Brothers, among others.

It was well-known that anyone who needed help could always count on Bobby. You no sooner called him and he was at your door. The winter months were his “glory days” driving through Stamford in his red truck, “The Whip”, with all the lights and flags, to snow plow for family and friends. He also plowed for the City of Stamford and State of Connecticut when needed for big storms. Bobby and his wife, Ruth, took great pride in their yard and gardens, which they created and maintained beautifully. Bobby loved visiting the family cottage in Sandgate Vermont, especially during hunting season with his father, brothers and friends. Bobby loved to dance and was an excellent dancer. Fridays you could find him kicking-up his heels and Saturday nights relaxing with his wife Ruth and his sister-in-law Nancy and husband, Vito Colucci, Sr. in a weekly card game.

Visitation will be held Friday, February 24th, 2012 from 3-7pm at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home located at 2900 Summer Street, Stamford, CT, 06905.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 25th, 2012 at St. Cecilia’s Church, 1148 Newfield Avenue, Stamford, CT, at 10a.m. Interment will follow at St. John’s Cemetery, 25 Camp Avenue, Darien, CT.
