After almost 91 years of an extraordinary life, Joseph DiPietro Sr. passed away on February 10, 2023. Joseph was born on February 23, 1932, in Stamford, Connecticut to the late Anthony and Josephine DiPietro.
He is survived by his loving wife Carmella DiPietro of 67 years, son Joseph DiPietro Jr. and their daughter Stefanie Kuczo, son-in-law Christopher Kuczo Sr., daughter-in-law Sandra DiPietro, his beloved grandchildren Ryan DiPietro, Haley DiPietro, Shawn DiPietro, Christopher Kuczo Jr., and Courteney Ronaghan, and his brother Anthony “Dee” DiPietro.
Joe was a driven professional, starting by attending a local business school after high school. After that, he started his career as a booking clerk at Getman and Judd Lumber Co. He eventually rose to the position of General Manager. In 1980, Joe decided to take on a new venture and took a huge risk to purchase a hardware store in Pound Ridge, NY. Joe and his wife Carmella changed the name of the hardware store from Pound Ridge Hardware to Chubby’s Hardware, his nickname from when he was a young boy from all his friends playing sports. Until the age of 90, Joe still did most of the bookkeeping for Chubby’s.
Joe enjoyed playing golf, watching the Yankees, gardening, and traveling with family and friends in his free time. He took a lot of wonderful vacations with his family to Italy, walking the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ, golfing in New Hampshire and relaxing in the Bahamas. Joe also loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events going from hockey to lacrosse to baseball to softball, sometimes on the same day, always having something encouraging to say after the game.
Joe was a member of the Italian Center Men’s Golf League and the Italian Center Men’s Club. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Joe was a dedicated family man to all of his family and extended family. Whether he shared the holidays with them or just Sundays in the backyard for a barbeque, he loved family and will be deeply missed.
A visitation for Joe will be held Tuesday, February 14, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home, 2900 Summer St, Stamford, CT.
