John D. Stobbie

JOHN (JACK) DAVID STOBBIE, 89, of Stamford, passed away on March 4th, 2021 in the loving company of his family. The loving son of the late Charles and Mary Stobbie, he was the proud father to five children and is survived by his son Brian Stobbie (Mercedes) of Darien, daughter Rachel Tyrrell (Lynn) of Stamford, son Tim Stobbie of San Diego, CA, and daughter-in-law Kim Stobbie, of Gainesville, FL. He was the proud grandfather to eleven grandchildren who he adored. Jack was predeceased by his beloved wife of 55 years Jean Bellairs Stobbie, his son John David Stobbie II of Gainesville, FL, and his daughter Kathleen Cummings of Stamford, CT.

While raising their children, Jack pursued a career in Human Resources. His strong work ethic combined with his outgoing personality made it a perfect career choice as he was deeply committed to his job as the Assistant Personnel Director for Stamford and then the Town of Greenwich.

Upon retirement from the Town of Greenwich in 1992, Jack and Jean moved to Florida where two of his children were living. They enjoyed decorating the homes they built, playing tennis, and going to the beach. In 2001, at the ripe old age of 70 Jack had enough of retirement and returned to the workforce. He had the opportunity to spend the following 12 summers with his family living in Connecticut as the General Manager of the Roxbury Swim and Tennis Club in Stamford. This brought Jack full circle as Roxbury was where he had raised his children decades earlier watching them swim, dive, and play tennis.

Jack’s true gift was his faith. A devout Catholic who attended daily mass for most of his life and never forgot his daily prayers. There is no doubt he is in heaven enjoying all the peace and love he deserves while asking God if there are any job opportunities for him.

A private mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at St. Leo's Church, Roxbury Road, Stamford, CT. Burial will follow at Queen of Peace Cemetery in Stamford.
