Helen was born in Reichenberg, Germany in 1931, the daughter of Walter and Alice Helwig. As a young woman, she immigrated to the United States, and ultimately moved to Connecticut where she met her husband and started a family. She was a lifelong resident of Norwalk ever since.
Helen was a wonderful mother and homemaker, and excelled particularly in both cooking and baking, which she very much enjoyed doing for both family and friends. Her consideration and kindness was very much enjoyed and appreciated by all who knew her. She had a great fondness for animals, of which she took great care of - both as pets within the home, as well as a variety in the wild.
Over the years, she also worked outside the home. Her last and longest assignment being an assistant librarian with UCONN-Stamford Branch, from which she retired.
She is survived by her children Robert (Pat) of Seymour, Judy Cranage (David) of Tyrone, PA, Raymond of Rowayton, Thomas of Norwalk, and Kimberly of Oakville, grandchildren Krista, Bryan, Kyle, Craig, and Amber, and great-grandchildren Maia, Elise, James, Cameron, Clarke and Silus.
Helen's family will receive friends at the Leo P. Gallagher & Son Funeral Home at 2900 Summer Street, Stamford on Saturday, November 24, 2018 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be kindly appreciated to either the Connecticut Humane Society or any comparable organization dedicated to the health and welfare of animals.
