Melissa Johnson, age 56, of Sugar Land, Texas passed away peacefully on Friday August 24, 2018. Melissa was born May 15, 1962 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Mildred Thompson Benson and Phillip Harrison Benson.
She was preceded in death by her parents Phillip Harrison Benson and Mildred Thompson Benson; and her sister-in-law Deb Tribble.
Melissa is survived by her husband of 29 years, LD Johnson; son Layden Johnson and daughter-in-law Caitlyn; son Jerett Johnson; and son Sean Christinson; sister Diane Dulaga and husband Neil, brother-in-law Steve Johnson and wife Mary Ellen, sister-in-law Cindy Johnson, sister-in-law Cathy Johnson, brother-in-law Butch Johnson and wife Elizabeth, brother-in-law Vernon Johnson and wife Marla, brother-in-law JJ Johnson and wife Jackie, brother-in-law Rusty Johnson and wife Susan; 14 Nieces & Nephews, and 18 Great Nieces & Nephews.
Melissa was a lover of animals and cherished her fur babies. Her family was rounded out by her 3 dogs Johnson, Thor and Boudreaux, and Suds the cat.
During her lifetime, nothing appeared impossible for Melissa. She met each challenge with the strength of the Lord behind her. He heart was pure and full of compassion, and love for everyone she encountered. She was adored by her husband, and respected by all her family and friends. She was an original, one of a kind person. Her love of the outdoors, fishing and hunting was shared with her husband and best friend, LD. Their life was of full of adventure and she loved spending good times with her family. Melissa was a true friend to many. Always willing to be and advisor, cheerleader, or just lend an ear to listen. She was an avid creator of unique food dishes and was well known for her specialty dish “Catcrap”.
Melissa’s remarkable talent for teaching was well suited for her 32 year career as a Science teacher. Teaching was her passion. She was honored to teach at Lake Olympia Middle School and in numerous other school districts in California and Texas during the span of her career. She considered each and every one of her students “her” children. Melissa made a difference in the life of “her” children, which was the driving force that kept her passion alive.
Melissa’s compassionate heart compelled her to share all that she was blessed with anyone that needed a helping hand. In memory of her giving spirit, donations may be made in honor of her to any veteran’s organization, shelter for battered women, or outreach program for the homeless.
