Jerusha (Judy) Bartay

She is preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Lee Bartay, AKA “The Wookie” as well as her sister, Elizabeth Wallace, and her brother, Nace Crawford, Jr.

Judy is survived by her brother, Jim Crawford, children, Susie & Bill Adair, Scott Bartay, Beth & Gary Ladd, and Amy & Mack Warren. Her grandchildren, Clay Adair, Kristie Kilgore and Rebecca Schaefer will sorely miss her presence in their lives. She was blessed to have many people in her life call her Mimi.

Mary Jerusha Crawford Bartay was born to the late Nace and Jerusha Crawford in Nachogdoches, Texas on August 29, 1940. She graduated from Ball High School in Galveston, TX. Judy attended Lon Morris College for her undergrad degree where she later served on the board. She earned her Master’s degree at Stephen F. Austin University in Nachogdoches, Texas.

Judy was a well-respected teacher by the students whom she taught in Fort Bend County schools for 20 years and retired from Lamar Consolidated ISD as an assistant principal 10 years later. To celebrate her retirement she decided to assist teaching interns, worked with them thru ACT, and continued as a mentor until the day she died.

She was born to a Methodist minister and lived her life preforming acts of service. She loved volunteering her time and you could find her at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo for many years, participating in activities with the Ladies’ Go Texan committee (yes, even wearing the Miss Moo costume on occasion) as well as “Jools” the clown, on the Speaker’s Committee.

In addition to the Rodeo she contributed countless hours serving on the Fort Bend County Welfare Board, The Women’s Club of Missouri City, as well as a volunteering at First United Methodist Church of Missouri City.

Visitation with the family will be on Thursday, January 26th from 5-7 PM at First United Methodist Church of Missouri City.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 27th at 11 AM at First United Methodist of Missouri City with a reception to follow in the Fellowship Hall.

Judy will be interred at Davis Greenlawn Cemetery with immediate family attending.
