Marjorie lived an amazing 99 years! She resided on St. Paul’s Eastside in a close-knit neighborhood for most of her adult life. She passed peacefully on January 3, 2022, following a brief battle with life-threatening illnesses after entering hospice at her home in Clear Lake, Wisconsin, where she lived with loving family.
Marjorie was preceded in death by parents, Joseph and Emelia; Kenneth, her loving husband of nearly 63 years; sons, Lynn and Harold; daughter-in-law, Vicki (Harold); brothers, Jean, Milton, Gordon; and grandson Matthew.
Marjorie is survived by her adoring daughter Joanne (Terry) Masso, son, Howard (Denise), daughter-in-law, Nancy (Lynn); sister, Joyce Ellingboe; 19 treasured grandchildren; 28 beautiful great-grandchildren; 11 precious great-great-grandchildren; and many other dear relatives and friends.
Marjorie was born in Fergus Falls, Minnesota and lived there until after she graduated from high school. She then moved to St. Paul and worked at a St. Paul Hardware Wholesale company where her uncle, Russell McNaughton, Sr., worked. Her next job was with Blue Cross Blue Shield in St. Paul and following this she was busy raising the Johnson brood, devoting her time to her four lovely children. Kenneth and Marjorie later bought a small grocery store on White Bear Avenue and Third Street on the Eastside. For 6 years in the 1960s they provided penny candy and other necessities to area families, working hard to stock those last-minute items folks always needed. Marjorie eventually found herself wanting to return to work and she became a hard-working employee of the Minnesota State Unemployment Office, where she worked until retirement.
Marjorie’s greatest joys were her family, friends from her beloved Lake Street Gang, and friends from church and work. Her passion for reading and crocheting kept her busy into later life and she loved country music! We all take comfort in knowing she is home with our Lord and her loved ones, and she is free from dementia, and vision and hearing loss. Her angels on Earth who provided 24-7 care so unselfishly for nearly 10 years were her loving daughter, Joanne, son-in-law, Terry, special friend, Linda, and granddaughter, Michele. God bless you all for everything you have done to make her life enjoyable! What would we have done without you?! The family also wishes to thank the staff of St. Croix Hospice who helped Marjorie transition from this life to the next. Finally, thank you, Marjorie, for being such a loving and extraordinary person in our lives. You will be greatly missed.
