Rodney was born August 22, 1937 in Maurice, Louisiana to the late Andrew Guidry, Sr. and the late Della Vincent Guidry. He was one of six children and was raised with a good work ethic and love for his family and country. He served as a member of the United States Army during the Vietnam War and Bay of Pigs invasion and was very proud of his service. After his service, Rodney began a career as a lineman and worked with various power companies throughout Acadiana, most recently with SLEMCO for over 25 years.
Outside of his work, he and his family trained and raced horses, a sport he enjoyed greatly. He also spent a great deal of his time watching Cassie play softball and Jude play baseball. His life was lived for his family and he will be missed dearly by all. Rest well Rodney for you have earned your heavenly reward.
Survivors include his wife and best friend of 55 years, Jeanette Delahoussaye Guidry; his three children, James Guidry and wife Donna Guidry, Tim Guidry and fiancé Joy Durbin, Janet Guidry and fiancé Ron Judice; his grandchildren, Cassie Lopez and Jude Lopez; six step grandchildren, Michael Harrell, Donald Harrell, Kai Laliberte, Tristan Durbin, Keeley Judice LaCoste, Kaitlyn Judice; a step great grandchild, Shelbie LaCoste; and his brothers and sisters, Russell Guidry (Flo), Glen Guidry, Danora Guidry Lormand and Myrna Hancock.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Andrew Guidry, Jr.; and his grandchild, Jenci Judice.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, July 13, 2020 at Evangeline Funeral Home from 9:00 am until 10:30 am, at which time a dismissal will take place. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am Monday, July 13 at St. Martin de Tours Catholic Church with Fr. Ed Degeyter as celebrant. Military honors will rendered at church and the burial will be held privately at a later date. The family has kindly asked that all guests wear a mask or facial covering and please adhere to social distance guidelines in accordance with Covid 19 regulations both at the funeral home and at church. Your cooperation is greatly appreciated.
Pallbearers will be Timothy, Russell, Bobby and Damien Guidry, Chris Lormand, Ricky Guidry and Ron Judice. Honorary pallbearers are Jude Lopez and James and Glenn Guidry.
