Born August 20, 1920 in Germantown, Illinois, passed away on December 12, 2015, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church.
Beloved husband of Dolores Hoff(nee Schoendienst) for 69 years. Dearest father and father-in-law of Joyce(William Sr.)Day, James(Mary Ann Farrell), Jo Ann(Charles)Hoehn, Mary Kathryn(Peter Stragand), Michael, Mark(Mary Lee Carlson), Joseph, and Martin Hoff. Grandfather of Jennifer, William, Christopher, Emily, Samuel, Claire, Cassidy, Chloe, great-grandfather of Jacob. Walter was preceded in death by his parents, Henry & Mary Dora Hoff, sisters Ann Heideman, Margaret Frerker, Sr. Mary Regina Hoff, & Sr. Mary Theodora Hoff, surviving sister, Helen Erlinger, of Belleville, Il., dearest brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Walter served in the Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater in WWII. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Margaret of Scotland Church, cofounder of the St. Margaret’s Credit Union and member of St. Margaret’s Men’s Club. Walter worked in the shoe industry for 45 years. In retirement, he volunteered at BJC & SLU hospitals and Meals-On-Wheels. He was an avid sports fan, gardener, and enjoyed playing poker & pinochle (the family game). Walter loved family gatherings and will be sorely missed by many.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Sunday, Dec. 20 at HOFFMEISTER COLONIAL MORTUARY, 6464 Chippewa. Visitation will continue at 9 am on Monday, Dec. 21 at St. Margaret of Scotland Catholic Church, 3854 Flad Ave. with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10 am.
