FR. TIMOTHY W. DWYER, S.M. died in the service of the Blessed Virgin Mary on November 18, 2024, at the age of 89 with 70 years of vowed life. He was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Timothy and Mary (Haley) Dwyer on October 15, 1935. Though an only child, he grew up in a large extended Irish-American family.
Fr. Tim was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by numerous cousins, including Mary Ann Hilmes, Anne Roth, Ellen Reynolds of St. Louis and Mark Bell of Atlanta, Georgia and his God-child, Mary “Tee” Naumann.
Following his graduation from De Andreis High School, he entered the Marianist Novitiate in Galesville, Wisconsin and professed his First Vows on August 15, 1954, on the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He earned his BA in 1957 from St. Mary University in San Antonio and went on to complete his seminary studies at Regina Mundi in Fribourg, Switzerland. Father Tim was ordained to the priesthood on August 4, 1968 at St. Philip Neri Church in St. Louis.
In seventy years of service, Fr. Tim ministered in many settings as a teacher in secondary schools; served as a campus minister and retreat ministry for 7 years. He served as a community director for 17 years. He was Rector of the Marianist Seminary in Toronto 1982 to 1986. Fr. Dwyer later served as Provincial Assistant for Religious Life and as Provincial. From 2011-2017, Father Dwyer served as chaplain to the Marianist Family Retreat Center in Cape May Point, New Jersey before retiring to the Marianist Residence in San Antonio.
Services: Visitation begins at 9:00 am until Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Curé of Ars Chapel of St. John Vianney H. S., 1311 S. Kirkwood Rd., Kirkwood, MO 63122, on Saturday, November 30, 2024. Interment will be in the Maryhurst Cemetery followed by a reception at the Vianney Cafe, all on the grounds of St. John Vianney.
