She was the beloved wife of the late Oscar J Gidlow, wonderful mother and mother-in-law of the late James (Kathleen) Gidlow, Robert (the late Laurie) Gidlow and Jane Gidlow LeMaster.
She was the special grandmother to Scott Gidlow, Dr. Brooke Gidlow Kraushaar, Hillary (Craig) Levy, Mindy (Greg) Rudisill and Katie (Nick) Darken.
She was the incredible great-grandmother to Jake and Daphne Kraushaar, Allison and Suzanne Levy, Sophia and Andon Chernow, Siena Rudisill and Bodhi James Darken.
She was sister-in law to the late Selma and Elmer Gidlow.
Our mother was a unique person. She was the epitome of refinement and always showed kindness, courtesy and especially a kind word to anyone she encountered. Everyone who knew her would ask what her secret was to reaching the age of 106. Besides being a very strong willed “Little Lady”, she would reply that “laughter was better than medicine”, and how important it was to have a positive outlook on life. Mom was also empathic and seemed to sense when someone was having a difficult time. Her comforting touch and reassuring words were appreciated as well as another favorite phrase that “Tomorrow will be a better day.”
Family was, above all, the most important to her. Hyman and Tillie Goldman of St. Louis were the parents of seven children, our mom being the youngest.
The oldest was the late Rose and Joseph Goldman, her sister the late Lillian and Nathan Altman, the late Evelyn and Harold Goldman, the late Edna and Joseph Feldman, the late Frances and Nelson Lerman and the late Gertrude and Albert Karney.
As time went on, she became the Matriach of the Goldman Family. She was loved and honored by all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and had the honor of being “mom”, “Aunt Simmy”, “Sims”, “Nonnie”, “Grandma”, “Grammy”, and “my other mother” to my best friend.
Our entire family is so appreciative of the loving care mom received from those at Ageless Care. Raquael, Diana, Tiffany, and Missy could not have been more loving or caring during the time they spent with her. Mom loved them and we will always be thankful for their loving care and laughter that they shared with her and us.
Graveside service will be Thursday, December 19 at 1:00pm at United Hebrew Cemetery at 7855 Canton. There will be a Shiva immediately following at Brookdale Creve Coeur where she lived for 14 years. Appreciation to all staff who were so kind to mom and always enjoyed seeing, talking and laughing with her.
