Beloved husband of Carolyn Jean Korein for 61 years. Loving father of Susan (Stan) Pritchet, Andrea (Bennett) Keller, and Michael (Andrea) Korein. Loving grandfather to Valerie Pritchet (Eric Miller), Laura (Damian) Irizarry, Samantha (Daniel) Katzman, Danielle Korein, Katherine Korein, and Gabrielle Korein. Loving great grandfather of Owen and Adelina Irizarry, Avery Katzman, and Rebecca Miller. Dear brother-in-law to Mark Glass and Stan Glass and loving uncle to Karyn (Greg) Scandaglia, Linda Glass (Jeff Mercer), and Steven (Diane) Glass and Elizabeth (Benjamin) Gregg.
Sandy was born May 5, 1932, Zalaszengrote, Hungary, to parents Ferenc and Katalyn Korein. He grew up in East St. Louis and attended East St. Louis Sr. High School, Washington University, and Washington University, School of Law. United States Army Infantry School Graduate, Second Lieutenant, July 7, 1956, Fort Benning, Georgia, Assigned to First Infantry Division (Big Red One), Fort Riley, Kansas, First Lieutenant and Commanding Officer of the Scout Dog Detachment, Reserve Duty thereafter (6 years) until Honorably Discharged, December 3, 1963. He was senior partner of the law firm Carr, Korein et. al. from 1973 to 2003 and then formed the law firm of Korein Tillery in St. Louis, Missouri until his retirement. Sandy was a staunch advocate for the State of Israel, a big supporter of the Democratic Party, a board member of the Jewish Federation of Southern Illinois and its fundraising chair. He was a member of the Illinois State Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Missouri State Bar Association, the Missouri Trial Lawyers Association, the American Trial Lawyers Association, and American Bar Association, and had served as chairman of the Admiralty and Maritime Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. He was a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates and is former President of the St. Louis-Southern Illinois Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates. He has served as Chairman of the St. Clair County Bar Association Medical-Legal Committee, Chairman of the Judiciary Committee of the St. Clair County Bar Association, and Chairman of the Admiralty Council of the Illinois Bar Association.
Services: Visitation Friday, September 14, 10:30 a.m. at Berger Memorial Chapel, 9430 Olive Boulevard, followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Interment Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery, 650 White Road, Chesterfield, MO 63017. Memorial contributions preferred to the Jewish Federation of Southern Illinois, 3419 West Main Street, Belleville, IL 62226 or the charity of your choice.
