Robin Howard Green

Robin S Green, 52, wife of Virgil J Green, passed peacefully from her mortal life on 21 April 2016 at Mercy Hospital in St. Louis, MO. She had been weakened by several ailments and died of natural causes.

Robin was born in New Brunswick, NJ on December 23, 1963. She would often comment on sharing a birthday with Joseph Smith. She was welcomed by her mother and father, Dolores Howard (Pion) and Harland Howard, and by her sister and brothers, Wanda, Hal, and Chuck. A few years later they were joined by her brother Lorin.

Not long after her birth, her family moved to Missouri where they enjoyed the life of a farm family. There are many stories of Robin's childhood exploits on the farm with their dog King and the many farm animals. One of the most often told is about the day her mother heard her inviting all her friends into the kitchen for a party. A little investigation found Robin gathering all the ducks and ducklings into the house.

Robin and family eventually moved to Kansas City where she graduated from Hickman Mills High School. While in high school (but not at that school), she met her future husband, Virgil Green. They were married for eternity in the Washington, DC Temple on 03 August 1982.

Robin spent the first years of her marriage working hard as a stay-at-home mom. She devoted her time and attention to raising her five children, Jordan, Kali, Ryan, Daniel and Rebecca. She loved each of them immensely, often forgoing her own needs to make sure they were cared for and well taught. They have grown into fine young men and women.

Once the children were all of school age, Robin needed a new outlet. She turned to nursing. She attended Sanford Brown School of Nursing where where she earned her Associates Degree in Nursing and then was certified as an LPN. She worked at a few jobs in various nursing home before the family moved to Saipan in 2001. Sadly, only because the family loved it there, circumstances brought them back to St Louis in 2002. Now, though, Robin could pursue her passion. She worked hard to earn her RN and then took a job that she came to love, working in the Labor and Delivery unit at St Mary's Hospital in St Louis.

Her knowledge and experience in nursing carried over into the lives of her children. She was determined and excited to be present and active at the births of each of her six grandchildren. Robin was able to lend her skills to help her daughter, Kali, and daughter-in-law, Emily, through the final weeks and moments of each birth.

While working at St Mary's, Robin also completed her BSN through the University of Phoenix. She worked with high-risk pregnancies and eventually gained a spot on the transport team. As a member of this team she would leave at a moment's notice to travel by ambulance or helicopter to retrieve mothers who were experiencing difficult births that required the services of the high-risk facilities at St Mary's. Mothers throughout eastern western Illinois, western Kentucky, and eastern Missouri were blessed to be cared for by Robin.

She loved working with her patients, even the difficult ones, and experiencing the joys (and sometimes sorrows) of bringing children into the world. She left St Mary's in 2013 and spent a couple of years as a traveling nurse, first working in Texas and then in Maryland and Delaware. Her health did not allow her to continue working and she left nursing in 2015.

Robin loved music and was an accomplished pianist. She loved to play, especially for her father, next to whom she will be laid to rest. He loved her renditions of classical music. Her interests changed over the years and in the last few years before her passing, she and her daughter Rebecca developed a love for all things Dr. Who. They enjoyed collecting and watching anything to do with this iconic figure. They were able to attend Comic-con in St Louis together and returned home delighted.

Her smile, her laugh, and love for her family will be missed.

Robin is survived by her husband, Virgil J. Green, her five children, Jordan N. Green, Kali N. Schertz (Green), Ryan M. Green, Daniel A. Green, and Rebecca P. Green. She is also survived by her four siblings, Wanda J Reeves (Howard), Harland “Hal” P Howard, III, Noel “Chuck” A Howard, and Lorin S Howard. She also leaves behind six wonderful grandchildren whom she adored: Marshall Green, Isabel Green, Oliver Green, Jenna Schertz, Liam Schertz, and Gavin Schertz.
