Richard Joseph Haffner, DDS, Age 91, Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, passed on August 21, 2023. Beloved husband of 67 years to Ruth (nee Gottron) Haffner; loving father of Richard (Kathy) Haffner, Jr., John (Lauri) Haffner, David (Jackie) Haffner, Thomas (Sue) Haffner, the late James (Gina) Haffner, and Michael Haffner; dear grandfather of Natasja, Bianca, Brittney (CJ Bommarito), Natalie, Emily, Noah Persha, Christopher, Benjamin, David, Jr., Kelly, Joshua (Caroline), Sarah (Michael) Croak, Zachary (Jessi), Justin, Jeremy, and Sophia; great-grandfather of Olivia, Juliet, and Joseph; dear brother of Valle (the late Donald) Kayhoe, the late Lawrence (Helen), and Anna Mae “Sissy” (Fred) Oppliger; son of the late Valentine and Eva (nee Haegele); dear cousin, uncle, dentist, and friend to many.
Richard was a devout Catholic and parishioner of St. Gabriel’s for over 60 years.
He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School, St. Louis University, St. Louis University School of Dentistry, and served 2 years in the US Air Force. Richard had a fulfilling dental career lasting 58 years and was an active member of the dental community as part of the MO Dental Association, St. Louis Dental Society, American College of Dentists, and Chairman of the Board of Delta Dental. Richard was a member of several organizations including, the Backstoppers, the Knights of Malta, and Score Club. His daily joy in life was to make everyone he met smile and his family’s favorite quote was “Is everybody having good time?!”
SERVICES: Visitation 9am until Mass at 10am Saturday, August 26, 2023 St. Gabriel the Archangel Catholic Church 6303 Nottingham, St. Louis, MO 63109. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Rural Parish Workers or Our Little Haven.
