Nancy Claire Hastings, age 79, beloved life partner of Carol A. Schulze for 53 years, passed away on March 24, 2022. Preceded in death by her parents, Robert C. and Clara F. Hastings. Nancy was born on May 31, 1942 in Elyria, Ohio. She is survived by her sister Sharon R. (Dale) Franklin McGehee and brother Robert M. (Donna) Hastings. She is also survived by nieces Robin (Doug) Person, Leslie (Craig) Bowser, Casey (Stephen) Rapp and Kelly (Dustin) Ford, nephews Chris Hastings, Scott (Terry Ann) Hastings, Ryan Hastings, cousins, grand nieces and nephews.
Nancy graduated from Elyria Catholic High School, Good Samaritan Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati and she earned her Master of Arts in Public Health from St. Louis University. Extremely patriotic, Nancy served in the United States Air Force as a nurse, was deployed to Vietnam from 1966-67, and later as an Aeroflight nurse from 1967-69, eventually retiring with the rank of Captain. In addition, she was instrumental in establishing the Vietnam's Women's Memorial in Washington D.C. in 1993.
Nancy touched the lives of many people with her generosity. She especially loved being with her family, celebrating Christmas, collecting Santas, traveling the world, following her beloved Cleveland and St. Louis sports teams, and watching "Jeopardy".
Nancy will be honored with a military funeral on Friday, May 20, 2022 at 12:30 p.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery with interment immediately following. The family asks that you please consider making a donation in Nancy's name to the Salvation Army or the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
