Although  I did not know your husband,  I am writing you  to express my support for you and your family during these sad days.
Having also lost my dear husband,  Richard Wolf,  I know how difficult these times are now and will be in the months and years to come, but still I wanted to share with you that my thoughts are with you and your family.

Leslie and Family,

I am so sorry to hear of Maury's passing.  He (and you) were wonderful neighbors here at Beekman Place. I was sad when you moved away, but knew it was the right decision. I enjoyed our talks in the parking lot, and on Halloween nights. 

May his memory be for a blessing, and may you find comfort at this very sad time.

Maury, Maury, Maury….you really had to do it your own way didn’t you?!... We got to know you in Kosovo only thirteen years ago and yet you loomed so large in our lives that it seems we’ve known you and Leslie forever…like family.
Just back from Namibia and Iceland. Off to Vietnam and Bangladesh —you’ve travelled more in the last few years than most adults do in their…adulthood. But then you left us in Bangkok alone and wondering where you’d gone and why and how we were going to move on without you. So, perhaps God needed a travel agency upgrade to better organize the heavenlyhosts’ frenetic activities ar ound the world? --after all, progress seems to be more than a little uneven recently, at least to us mortals. So maybe when you conduct
your interviews you’ll put in a good word for America, Israel and all the rest who seem to be going through a rough patch? And please, please don’t launch into your favorite spiel about managers who don’t manage that really need to be replaced… As I've told you so many times it’s all about adjusting one’s expectations. I mean if the Commanders are 7-3 (Eagles tonight…) and Robles hit .328 with the Mariners perhaps you need to take the longer view. Maybe the world, like the Nationals and Wizards, is really in another one of those rebuilding time warps? Still, you demonstrated an
enviable prescience avoiding the election, cabinet appointments and recent travails in Israel. Doubtless there is method in all of this madness that makes sense. But in case there are still some misunderstandings and wrinkles to be ironed out we’re
counting on you to be sure things are done right.
As for the huge hole—vacancy—space--crater you’ve left in our lives and hearts…We can only think that our enduring memories of your good cheer, good works, incredible courage, and deep friendship through it all, so ably and lovingly supported by Leslie
(behind every heroic man there is an heroic woman…) , must suffice to get us through this unrelenting sense of loss

When Maury and I met at his health clinic I was the nurse who gave him his injection treatments once a month. After the first treatment  he offered me a chocolate orange like the one above. I did not want him to feel he had to give me gifts but he insisted.  So to keep him happy I accepted.  Every appointment brought the same gift. I will always think of him when I see this treat and have one with me now to celebrate his new adventure.  Miss you Maury but you will never be forgotten as long as there is chocolate!

I wish to express my deep gratitude for Maury Lieberman's generosity, curiosity, and kindness. As Managing Director of Mosaic Theater Company in Washington, DC I experienced these qualities first hand many times over the past years, during which Leslie has been a stalwart member of Mosaic's Board of Trustees.  When I first visited Maury & Leslie's home in downtown Washington I was struck by their love of exploration, springing from a  profound curiosity about, and empathy with, the diversity of human experience. Maury's curiosity extended to the seriousness with which they undertook their philanthropy. His thoughtful, rigorous questions revealed a keen interest and knowledge and his desire to truly help our organization succeed.  Maury & Leslie's hospitality  also reflected their values of generosity and kindness.  As well, the love and care Leslie showed Maury was deeply moving, a beautiful example of aging in place with dignity.  It was clear they were deeply in love and had lived a beautiful, nourishing life together.  Further, their intellectual and professional partnership left a deep impression on me - with their twin desks and shared workspace - Maury and Leslie were remarkable partners.  Maury will be missed by us all and his memory will forever be a blessing.
