Mary Elizabeth "Bette" Sly

Beloved wife of 50 years to the late Joseph Edward Sly. They shared a partnership that inspired family and friends. Dear daughter of the late Will and Molly Granville; dear mother of Patrick (Peggy) Sly, Maureen (Charlie) Hoffman, Dr. Anne Sly, MD and William Sly; dear sister of Sr. Jeanne Granville, B.V.M. and the late Helen (Paul) Bayless, Bill (Jerry) and Jack (June) Granville; dear grandmother of Patrick, Jr. (Jana) Sly, Colleen (Tom) Mooney, Matt (Katie), Todd (Molly), John and Claire Hoffman, Emilie (Benn) Engelhard and Grace Sly; dear foster “mom” to Hiep and Hien Nguyen; loving great-grandmother, dear aunt and good friend.

Bette was a lifelong St. Louis resident and was a proud graduate of the St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1948. She was a founding member of Annunciation Parish, school nurse at Mercy High School and Webster Groves High School, neighborhood nurse and caregiver to many, friend to all.

A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Annunciation Catholic Church, 12 W. Glendale (63119) on Wed., Dec. 14, 2011 at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. If desired, memorials may be made to B.V.M. Center, Development Office, 1100 Carmel Drive, Dubuque, IA 52003-7991.
