Marie L. Bertani (nee Brusatti), fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church, entered into eternal life, Monday, November 6, 2023 surrounded by her loving family and friends. Born December 10, 1928 of proud Italian descent and Hill resident her entire lifetime.
Predeceased by her loving husband, Louis F. Bertani, parents John and Lena (nee Pozzini) Brusatti, dear sister, Irene Brusatti and brother Raymond (Mary) Brusatti, and special friend, Joe Huerta. Beloved mother to Diane (Charles) Kofron, Tom (Donna) Bertani and Denise (William) Seib. Devoted grandmother to Andrew Kofron, Bradley (Elizabeth) Kofron, Alicia Bertani, Justin (Emily) Bertani, Gabriella (Michael) Medina, Annalisa Seib, and Matthew Seib. Cherished great-grandmother to Olivia Medina. Special cousin to Geraldine Pozzini, and dear extended family, Denise Lachnit and her son, Evan.
Marie was the matriarch of the family, and regarded as a “Spit Fire” by her grandchildren. Loving, kind, thoughtful, generous, devoted, loyal, considerate, and religious, she was a wonderful wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, sister, niece, aunt, cousin, sister-in-law, godmother, and friend, and she will be sorely missed.
Known for her outstanding cooking, everyone enjoyed her family meals served in the “Cucina”. Her specialties included risotto, Italian beef, pasta with "red sauce”, meat balls, ravioli, potato salad, vegetable soup and Italian cookies. No one left the dinner table hungry; dinner often would include an ample supply of Missouri Bakery sweets and bread.
Hobbies were raising her children, spoiling her grandchildren and later, great-granddaughter. Word and number puzzles later became a favorite past time. She loved her children but her grandchildren took center stage. Her shining star became Olivia, her first and only great granddaughter. Olivia called her Gigi. At night, with the start of the 10:00 pm news, mom would treat herself to a “shot” of Bailey's Irish Cream or a Natural Light beer. Mom would hide her Bailey's and sweets under her bed.
Mom was a gift and is already greatly missed by the family, but the lifetime of happy memories and special occasions shared with her will keep her forever in our hearts and minds.
Viewing will be Sunday, November 12 at Hoffmeister Colonial Mortuary, 6464 Chippewa Street 63109, from 3-5pm. A second viewing will be at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 5130 Wilson 63110 on Monday, November 13, from 9-10am. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10am. Rite of Committal to follow at Resurrection Cemetery
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Marie's memory to the Sick and Elderly Program of The HIll, or St. Ambrose Church would be greatly appreciated by her family.
