Mrs. Lowe was born in Belfast, Ireland, on Aug. 8, 1917, to Annie and Thomas Ferguson. She lived there until she married her husband, Farrell D. Lowe, on June 27, 1945 in London, England. Mr. and Mrs. Lowe met in the L.D.S. (Mormon) church in Belfast, Ireland, during World War II.
As a proud Army wife, Mrs. Lowe moved wherever her husband was assigned, caring for her children and always providing a beautiful home and life for them. Their Army assignments took them to Germany in 1946, Ft. Lewis, Wash., in 1947, The Presidio in San Francisco in 1950, Camp McCoy, Wisc., in 1951 and Ft. Leonard Wood, Mo., in 1953.
Upon Col. Lowe’s retirement from the Army in 1954 they moved to Kirkwood and have lived there happily ever after.
Aside from her family and Irish heritage, the thing she cherished most in her life was being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She joined the church in Belfast, Ireland, in 1938 at the age of 21 and served a mission in Dublin, Ireland, and Glasgow, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1940 and 1941. Throughout her life she returned to her beloved Ireland numerous times to visit her family.
Mrs. Lowe is survived by her husband of 69 years, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Farrell D. Lowe (who will turn 102 on Nov. 13); daughters Karen Adams, Sharon (Gary) Zieroth, Diane (Mike) Versackas and Lisa (Edward) Von Doersten; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren plus two more great-grandchildren on the way.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 15, 1 p.m., at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 10445 Clayton Road, in Frontenac. Interment, Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
