It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Edith on March 24, 2021 at the age of 85. Married for 58 years to Friedhelm (1936-2019), she was cherished mother of Silke (and John Jacques) and devoted grandmother (Oma) of Maya and Elfie. Oma helped raise her granddaughters, teaching them arithmetic as well as German vocabulary and grammar. She was always very generous with her time and cooked delicious meals for family and friends. She loved tending to her gardens in Westmount and at the farm in the Laurentians. She was a great animal lover and continually spoiled her pets Muschili and Wuschel with treats.
Edith will also be deeply missed by her relatives in Germany, her many former students and her dedicated caregivers. She had a long career in teaching, first as an elementary school teacher in Germany, and then after she obtained her PhD in German literature from McGill University, she taught German at both Concordia University and Université de Montréal. She discovered many parts of the world with her beloved Friedhelm, and was happy to visit Maine with her family for numerous summers. She spent much of her free time immersed in books, doing Sudokus, and always greatly appreciated the arts. She was known to be honest and strong willed, and much enjoyed singing and eating chocolate.
Wir haben dich sehr lieb, du bist immer in unseren Herzen.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions there will be a private graveside service.
