Bernard (Bernie) Milbers passed away peacefully on August 22, 2024, at the age of 65 after a long and courageous battle with "Progressive Supranuclear Palsy". Born in Liège, Belgium, he and his parents moved to Sudbury, Ontario in the early 60's before making their way to Québec in 1962. He returned to Belgium in the late 70's/early '80's to complete his compulsory military service, one of his most proud and cherished memories.
Bernie had many wonderful memories of their family life in Montréal and Otterburn Park with their many pets and, notably the family dog, Brutus the Boxer. But what he remembered most of his childhood were the great years spent in Ayer's Cliff where he met his future wife Suzanne along with many close friends. He moved to Montréal in the early 80's before setting down roots in Brossard where he and Suzanne raised their family and created many more wonderful memories.
Bernie was an avid fan of the F1 Grand Prix and attended the Montréal race every year with his friends. As a car enthusiast, he also attended the yearly Montreal car show. He was an avid reader, a huge fan of the NFL and NHL games, a lover of rock and blues music (most especially the Rolling Stones), and he loved to ride his vintage BMW motorcycle on country roads. He loved to travel and to dine with friends and family. He was also a lover of animals and filled the house with cats and the family dog Sasha, that he fondly nicknamed Patate. Bernie started his airline career at Delta Airlines as a baggage handler and retired at an early age as a Call Centre manager at Air Canada.
Bernie was a proud family man and will be especially remembered as how proud he was of his two sons. He is survived by his spouse of 37 years, Suzanne Coulombe, his children Alexandre, Nicolas (Lisa Marie), his grandson Noah, his mother Marguerite Stasse, as well as his extended family and friends throughout Europe, Canada and the U.S.A. He is predeceased by his loving father André Milbers.
It was Bernie's wish that the family hold a private burial at a later date when he will be interred at the family plot in the Eastern Townships.
The family would like to thank everyone who works at the CHSLD Marcelle- Ferron for their dedication and hard work in support of Bernie during his last days.
