Mr. Auchter is survived by four children, Carmen (Tim) Miller, Mark (Elaine) Auchter, Peter (Melissa) Auchter and Christopher (Amanda) Auchter; two sisters, Ilse Ruser and Annelies Horn, and a twin brother, Dieter Auchter, all of Germany; 7 grandchildren, Niki, Nathan, Michael, Jason (Angela), Luke, Emily and Max; two great-grandchildren, Brody and Adam. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Caritas (Rita).
Mr. Auchter arrived in America in 1953 and became a U.S. citizen in 1961. While the rest of his family remained in Germany, he consistently wrote home weekly. Starting as a dental technician, he eventually owned his own business in Grosse Pointe Woods until retiring at age 75.
He took great pride in owning his own home and spent many hours working in his garden. He also enjoyed swimming, spending time with family in Caseville, Michigan, and traveling. He was an avid Detroit sports fan and always had the radio tuned to WJR.
Mr. Auchter was a longtime member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Detroit where he served as an usher and volunteered for many other activities.
