In the early morning of June 6, 2020, Linda Marie (Buttrey) Benedict transcended to heaven at the young age of 71. Linda, loving mother of four and grandmother of fourteen, passed peacefully at home in the arms of the love of her life, Chuck Landino. She bravely and painfully fought issues with her heart and rheumatoid arthritis for many years, with Chuck lovingly caring for her every need.
Linda and her two siblings, Barbara (Buttrey) Rodriguez and David Buttrey, were raised with love and pride by Homer and Barbara (Knight) Buttrey. Each loving parent preceded Linda’s death. Linda was born in Detroit, MI on December 15, 1948. As a young girl, Linda loved singing in her church choir and has always been a social butterfly. Her relationships with people were always what mattered most to her. She amazingly remembered the names of all of the teachers, classmates, and neighborhood friends from kindergarten to high school graduation throughout her life. People always took center stage in her life.
Linda married shortly after graduating from Denby High School in Detroit. Although her marriage was brief, she joyfully gave birth to four children. Her kids were her pride and joy.
Linda and Chuck began dating while the kids were young, and have been inseparable ever since. For forty two years, they had a love like no other. Chuck lovingly cared for Linda’s every need with love and devotion when her health declined these past fifteen years. Their relationship was a rare example of unconditional love.
While her children were still in high school, Linda courageously pursued a program to become a legal secretary at Mary Grove College. Linda modeled hard work and tenacity for all who knew her and was awarded the honor of being the Valedictorian of her legal secretary program. After graduation, Linda was immediately hired by the prestigious law firm, Honigman, Miller, Schwartz and Cohn. Those fortunate enough to work with, and know Linda, describe her as supportive, patient, committed, tireless, knowledgeable, and self-sacrificing. She proudly dedicated 24 years to the firm before retiring early in 2005 due suffering from rheumatoid arthritis. Despite the passing of 15 years, Linda still maintained several lasting friendships from her time at Honigman.
Linda’s last 15 years have largely been spent at home due to the physical challenges from rheumatoid arthritis. As the steadfast, loving matriarch of the family, she loved celebrating holidays and birthdays with daughter Shally (Joe) Banks, son Justin Benedict, daughter Sherry (Jeff) Betcher, and son Jason (Paula) Benedict. Linda loved and doted on her beloved fourteen grandchildren Chelsea, Chad, Austin, Nick, Sydney, Kyle, Hailei, Hannah, Sebastian, Beau, Camryn, Allie and great grandchildren Gavin and Ashland. In her eyes, Linda’s grandchildren could do no wrong. She is also survived and loved by several cousins, nieces and nephews living near and far.
Linda’s wish was that loved ones remember her with a Celebration of Life instead of a funeral. Details for her celebration will be shared at a later time.
