Gerald "Jerry" Henry Hyvonen, age 87, of St. Clair Shores, Michigan passed away on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. He was born on June 5, 1937, to parents Van and Christina Hyvonen. Beloved husband of 36 years to the late Marlene Hyvonen. Loving cherished dad to Greg Hyvonen, Kevin (Connie) Hyvonen, and Kristen (Ed) Hall. Grandpa to Brian Malloy, Austin Hyvonen, Owen (Taryn) Hall, Jenna Hall, and Skyler Hyvonen. Great-Grandpa to Ryder Hall. Dear brother to Louise Boomer, Carol Radke, and June Hyvonen. He was preceded in death by his siblings Ellen Oldani and Edward Hyvonen. Jerry will be missed by many family and friends.
Jerry retired with over 30 years at the United States Post Office. He was a proud veteran from 1954 -1958 with the the United States Navy aboard the USS Salisbury Sound. Jerry was a decorated Boy Scout Master for Troop 214/374. He was an avid golfer earning the nickname of "Long Ball". Jerry loved spending time with family, playing cards and drinking beer. He also liked spending time outdoors, doing crossword puzzles, loved his sweets, to travel, and watching westerns. Jerry was a long time member of the VFW, American Legion, and the Fraternal Order of the Eagles.
Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 9, 2024, beginning at 2:00 pm until time of service at 6:00 pm, with Navy Honors, at Kaul Funeral Home 28433 Jefferson Ave., St. Clair Shores, Michigan 48081.
Memorials in memory of Jerry are suggested to the Alzheimer's Association or to a Charity of One's Choice.
Interment will take place at Resurrection Cemetery on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 10:00 am.
