George Donald Lobeck, age 90, passed away on October 25, 2021. He was born to Francis and Mary Lobeck on Friday, December 13, 1930 in Detroit, MI. He is preceded in death by his beloved wives: Bernadine Lobeck and Diana H. Schoof.
While not perfect, George was a loving, loyal man. He wore his pants high, flirted with the waitresses, had the biggest home theatre in the day, and double mowed his lawn. But more importantly he was loyal to his family, friends, the Elks and the Detroit Lions. His children and grandkids remember his love of technology, music, photography, movies, golf, and sense of humor. George made the best of life and all the curve balls. Even through a lost finger, the death of his wives, and losing much of his sight, George found things to be thankful for and enjoyed his long life.
George led a good life, and he only got better with age. George was a Korean War Veteran, a long time Knights of Columbus member, and a lifelong Elks Club, Moose, Eagles and VWF Member. As his grandson, James, shared: “He taught me to work hard, to treat others with respect, and that a good salesman doesn’t need to lie to sell a product- that if you’re honest with people that will be worth more in the long run than a quick buck.”
Old age softened him, he treated his caregivers with respect, love, and compassion; told stories of his childhood, did crafts, had snowball fights with his great grandchildren; and taught us that life is worth enjoying. When COVID hit, George insisted he needed an iPad like the cool kids, snuck out of his room for “illegal” card games, and left his literal mark with his scooter. George never stopped loving, never stopped smiling, never stopped giving, and will be remembered by many who loved him.
George is survived by his loving children: Suzanna (Casey Holt) Kennedy, Michele (James) Paterni, Frank (Mary) Lobeck, Robert (Courtney) Lobeck; 7 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Also left to cherish his memory will be Diana’s family and friends. May his memory be a blessing to all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be appreciated to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
