Erma M. Thomas, (nee Bertini) 91, June 05, 2014. Erma was born in Asiago, Italy to Virginio Bertini and Celeste Bertini (nee Carli) on December 26, 1922. She immigrated to the United States in 1928, and spent her early years in Ironwood, MI. She was preceded in death by her sister Katherine Bertini Puente and brother Peter R. Bertini of Ironwood, MI. Erma attended St. Ambrose High School in Ironwood and became a legal secretary, working for a lawyer, prior to marrying William Thomas (nee Perlberg). They then moved to Detroit, to start a family and find work in the auto industry. After having her first two children, Erma worked for Chrysler Corp. for several years to pay off their first house. She then became a housewife, attending to her 2, and later 4 children. She enjoyed traveling, and camping, and toured many of the lower 48 states. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing and needle crafts. In her middle years, Erma along with her husband, William, enjoyed square and round dancing and fishing on Lake St. Clair. She was a member of St Germaine Parish and helped with funeral luncheons and sang in the Resurrection Choir. In the past few years, she looked forward to bowling once a week. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles and continued to do meal planning and shopping. Erma is survived by her husband of 67 years, William, and by sons: Robert Thomas (Carol), Richard Thomas (Leesa) and David Thomas (Lisa), and daughter Patricia (Dave Moore), and by 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Visitation hours will be from 4-9 pm, Monday, June 9th at the Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson, St Clair Shores, Mi., with a rosary at 7 pm. The funeral will be held on Tuesday, June 10th at 10am at St. Germaine Church, 28301 Little Mack Ave., (corner of Little Mack and Martin Road) St Clair Shores, Mi.
