Anyone who knew Barb would agree she was one of the most generous and kind-hearted people you would ever meet. Her generosity never ceased, even when she didn’t have much to give.
Barb shared her floral arranging talents with so many for more than 40 years at Charvat the Florist in Grosse Pointe. Friends and family knew if you needed flowers, she was the best and always willing to create something beautiful for your special occasion.
Outside of work, she loved spending time with friends and family. Barb enjoyed meeting friends at Irish Coffee down the street from Charvats or was always willing to attend a Detroit Tigers or Wings game, even at a moment’s notice. If you were around Barb, you could always find her with a Diet Coke in hand. She also looked forward to visiting family all over the country and anywhere warm with a pool. Her heart always had a soft spot for animals, especially dogs, and she was an avid supporter of many animal-related charities, including the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society.
What she truly loved most, though, were her children and grandchildren. She was so proud of all of them and was always sharing pictures and stories about them any chance she got. She often spoke of how excited she was to meet her newest grandson, Luke, due in just a few weeks. There’s no doubt the first thing she did in Heaven was scoop up her late granddaughter, Kate, and that she was overjoyed to be reunited with her late husband Rick, as well as so many other loved ones.
Barb will be missed deeply by so many but solace can be found in knowing she is now resting in peace with so many loved ones.
Barb is survived by her children Justin (Casandra) Smith, Sarah (John) Bamford and Matthew (Marisol) Smith; grandchildren Jack, Nate, Will, Cecilia, Evie and Luke; siblings the late Robert (Kathy) Pfeffer, the late Chuck (Connie) Pfeffer, Tom Pfeffer, Mary Kay (Jerry) Miles and Mark (Julie) Pfeffer. She is predeceased in death by her husband Rick, parents Robert and Helen Pfeffer, and granddaughter Kate.
A memorial visitation for Barb will be held Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, with a Prayer Service at 2:00 PM, at Kaul Funeral Home, 28433 Jefferson Ave, St. Clair Shores, MI 48081.
Memorial donations can be made to SMASHsmard.org. SMASHsmard was an organization Barb donated to often in memory of her granddaughter Kate who passed away from the disease.
