Died suddenly and unexpectedly while visiting friends on Wednesday November 27, 2024. Tom was predeceased by his wife, Joanne Muriel (nee Soper) Lewis, parents Edward and Helen Lewis, and sister-in-law June Soper. Tom was a lifelong resident of St. Catharines. Upon graduation from Merritton High School, Tom worked in a Chartered Accountants firm until his retirement in 1997. He married Joanne Muriel Soper in 1984. Tom was a life-long member of Grace Anglican Church until Grace merged with St George’s Anglican Church in St Catharines. Tom was a Deputy Warden at St. George’s at the time of his death. Tom enjoyed his time at Lake Kushog in Haliburton, Ontario where he attended St. Peter's Anglican Church, Maple Lake, Carnarvon, Ontario.
Like his father, Tom had a life-long love and interest in Freemasonry, joining St. Andrew’s Lodge 616 in 1966. Tom held too many elected and appointed positions at local, provincial and national levels to list. He was Coroneted an Honorary Inspector-General of the 33° and was Crowned a Sovereign Grand Inspector General, 33° and served as Active Member of Supreme Council, A.&A.S.R. until 2020. On November 30, 2024, three days after his death, Tom was remembered by his Masonic brothers with an Empty Chair at Table 1 at a Joint Anniversary Celebration of the Elgin Lodge of Perfection and the A.&A.S.R Supreme Council of Canada.
Tom’s recent passion has been for the establishment of a Satellite Leaning Centre for Dyslexic children. He was instrumental in securing and furnishing a site for the Learning Centre in St. Catharines and was looking forward to establishing a Board of Directors and hiring tutors for the Centre. That work will continue through the Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation.
A celebration on Tom's life will be held at St. George’s Anglican Church, 83 Church Street, St. Catharines, Ontario on Tuesday December 10th at 11:00 a.m. If so desired, memorial donations may be made to either the St. George’s Anglican Church Restoration Project or The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation of Canada, c/o the Niagara Learning Centre.
