We struggle to find the words that would do more than just announce Ken’s passing. We want to write about the man everyone knew and loved. Over the years he had many hobbies such as Judo, Karate and Tai Chi. He was wonderful musician and talented pianist, playing in local bands for decades. He also enjoyed his membership in the Moose Lodge.
He was born and raised in St. Catharines and was employed at General Motors for 35 years as a gifted mechanic. Ken was an amazing jack of all trades. His standard line was “I can fix anything but broken hearts”. He could fix anything, and usually had the part he needed in the garage, or would make it as needed. If you needed to find Ken, You didn’t have to look very far. He spent hours tinkering in the garage working on cars, and rebuilding motorcycles.
Ken loved his sweets and his tea to the very day he left us. He loved treats such as cookies, butter tarts, coffee crisp and ice-cream. There were always treats on the counter to enjoy.
Ken was a man of integrity, honesty and a true gentle man. He was a patient, loving and nonjudgmental father. We always knew he was there if we needed an ear or shoulder to cry on. He had the innate ability to put you at ease and you could talk to Ken about anything. He would welcome anyone into his home with open arms.
Ken left us with so many happy memories of family and friends gathered around singing while he played piano, often with Brother Bill. He was anextremely talented piano player. It was a joy to walk in the door and hear his beautiful daily renditions of old tunes. Music became an essential part of our lives.
Ken will be missed fiercely by his family. Remaining forever to cherish their Dad’s memory are Marjorie Andrews (Willie), Kathie Andrews (Rick), Donna Gates (Paul) and Julie Scopel (Mark).
