On Wednesday August 30th, 2023, Jeffrey passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by his cherished family at the St. Catharines General Hospital in his 60th year.
Jeff is survived by his loving spouse of nearly 23 years, Sandra Gale, and his devoted son Cameron Shennan, his nurturing parents Nancy and Brian Shennan, caring and supportive brothers Scott Shennan (Adele) and Glen Shennan (Carrie). Jeff was a warm hearted uncle and will be greatly missed by his nieces and nephews; Haeley, Cole, Kiera ~ William and Avery.
He was predeceased by his grandparents; Helen and Roy Taylor, Pearl Shennan and former Chief of Police Albert Shennan all of St. Catharines, Ontario.
Jeff attended Lakeport High School where he excelled in art. After secondary school he spent time working creatively with silk screening but eventually changed course moving to Barrie, Ontario finding employment with Volkswagen. He then made his way back to Niagara spending 11 years working for Van Geest Brothers before making another move to Canada Food Inspection Agency as an Inspector in 2005. Jeff could always be counted on and was adored by his colleagues at C.F.I.A. He made the work day a fun and welcoming place to be.
Jeff will be fondly remembered by his fellow students of both Graphic Design at Mohawk College Class of 92' and art instruction with Mrs. Jay Harriot. Jeff was an incredibly talented artist with a natural ability to turn almost any paint medium into a striking and evocative work of art. He worked primarily in oil on canvas and most recently pencil. He had the ability to manipulate light and shadow and bring canvas to life with a stroke of a brush creating magic. His talent was respected and admired by both his contemporaries and peers. Jeff's light shines on through the master works he created over his lifetime.
Jeff’s summers were often spent vacationing on picturesque Sauble Beach enjoying family and friends. Many will recall decades of cheerful times under the Lake Huron sunset with Jeff and the Shennan family as their cottage hosts.
Jeff's family, friends, neighbours and co-workers will always treasure his unforgettable dry sense of humor and hilarious stories told and retold with his signature head tilt. All who loved him will carry an emptiness where his presence once filled.
The family welcomes all who cared for our beloved Jeff to join in a Celebration of Life on Saturday October 7, 2023, at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 350, 57 Lakeport Road, St. Catharines, Ontario (4 pm - 10 pm).
Friends are invited to share their memories of Jeff with his family during this event.
Cremation and Private Interment is to be announced. In lieu of flowers if desired, donations to the Cancer Research Society [email protected] or 1-888-766-2262 in Montreal would be appreciated by the family.
