Helen Joan Mearns (Andreychuk), revered as a pillar of the strength, love, compassion, and unyielding hope, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 12, 2024. Born on June 21, 1940, Helen was known for her warmth, generosity, and the undeniably loving spirit she brought to the world.
Helen will be lovingly remembered by her beloved children, Robert Mearns, Joan Antoine, her husband Greg, and their daughters Cheyenne (Ben) and Samantha, and her great-grandchildren, Jaxson, Maverick, and Ivy; Randy Mearns, his wife Connie, and their two sons Tanner and Owen; her sisters Pat Winter and Betty Vrooman; brother-in-law Paul Yakimoff, along with her many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. She is joined in rest by her father and mother, Stephen and Frances Andreychuk, her husband Arthur Mearns, her infant son Arthur, her sister Marie Yakimoff, brother-in-law Bill Winter, along with many other loved ones throughout her life. With a hefty tree of family and friends, Helen’s reach was as far as it was wide, and she was cherished deeply by many.
Among Helen’s significant accomplishments was the raising of her children, whom she held as her pride and joy. She was a bookkeeper by trade and was very involved in the bowling and lacrosse community as a volunteer, as well as in her parish, St. Mary of the Assumption. Helen never wavered in her compassion for others and continued to support her family and friends and would graciously extend a helping hand to those in need.
A funeral service will take place on November 21, 2024, at 11 am at the St. Mary of the Assumption church at 169 St. Paul Crescent, St. Catharines, Ontario. Those wishing to pay their respects and celebrate her life are welcomed beginning at 10:15 am. A reception will be held immediately after at the St. Mary of the Assumption Hall at the same location.
