With profound sadness, we announce the passing of a wonderful women, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, Doreen McCullough. Doreen passed away peacefully on May 31, 2024, at the age of 88, after a courageous battle with dementia over the last four years.
Doreen was born on November 20, 1935, in Belfast, Northern Ireland. Her early years were marked by the rich cultural tapestry and resilient spirit of her hometown, which she carried with her throughout her life.
In her journey of life, Doreen found her soulmate, Alex McCullough, with whom she shared a beautiful marriage filled with love, laughter, and companionship. Together, they raised two devoted sons, Al and Jim, who were the pride and joy of her life. Doreen's family continued to grow with the addition of four cherished grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her immense happiness and pride.
Doreen and Alex were active members of the St. Catharines Irish Club, where they spent countless joyous moments surrounded by dear friends. The club was a second home to them, a place where they could embrace their heritage, enjoy vibrant community gatherings, and create lasting memories.
A devout and loving member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Doreen found great comfort and strength in her faith. She was actively involved in church activities and cherished the fellowship she shared with her church community.
Doreen was known for her warmth, kindness, and unwavering dedication to her family and friends. Her compassionate nature and gentle spirit touched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Despite the challenges posed by dementia, Doreen's inner light and loving heart continued to shine brightly, leaving an indelible mark on those around her.
Doreen is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alex and her son Jim, sister Louie (Ted) and brother Jim (Margaret). She is survived by her son Al (Anita), her four grandchildren, and her six great-grandchildren, along with a loving family, who will forever carry her legacy in their hearts.
As we say goodbye to Doreen, we celebrate a life well-lived and the immeasurable love she bestowed upon her family and friends. Her memory will live on in the stories we share, the traditions we uphold, and the love we continue to spread in her name.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to everyone at Pioneer Elder Care in St. Catharines, who for the past 2 years extended her health and happiness by providing a wonderful home for her to enjoy.
Visitation for Doreen will be held at Hulse and English Funeral Home & Chapel, 75 Church Street, St. Catharines on Thursday, June 6, 2024 from 2:00-4:00 & 6:00-8:00 p.m. Followed by Funeral Service on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of the Good Shepherd, 677 Niagara Street (Grace Mennonite Church building), St. Catharines, Ontario.
Flowers and donations to the Alzheimer's Society or to the Activities department of Pioneer Elder Care in memory of Doreen McCullough are welcome.
