Dennis is survived by his children, Jeff (Cherie Rinehart) VanOver and Chris Romans; grandchildren, James Romans, Danny Romans, Myndi (Dan) McGarrigle, Dennis (Crystal Hernandez) VanOver, and Travis VanOver; great grandchildren, Ryelee and Madelynn McGarrigle. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dennis is preceded in death by his parents, LaVern and Helen VanOver; his wife, Shirley VanOver; twin brother, Charles VanOver; and son-in-law, James Romans, Sr.
After obtaining his high school education, Dennis went into the Air National Guard to serve his country. During that same time period, he worked as a sheet metal worker and draftsman for McDonnell Douglas. Then, in 1964, at the age of 27 he became the owner & operator of Bill Schrum’s Car Wash and of VanOver Car Company. He successfully operated his business for the past 54 years. When he wasn’t working hard to provide for his family, Dennis could be found competing in a friendly game of Pool, watching the St. Louis Cardinals play on TV, or spending some down-time at his lake home in Branson. He was very proud of his professional accomplishments, but he took the greatest pride in his roles as Dad, Grandpa, and PaPa. Dennis was a great man who will truly be missed by all of his family and friends.
Memorial donations may be made in Dennis’ name to American Kidney Foundation or American Cancer Society.
