Clifford Jerome Hayes, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on July 13, 2024, at the age of 92. Clifford was born to Clifford Joseph Hayes and Greta Margaret Shimoine, who preceded him in death. He was also predeceased by his first wife, Sharon Ann Mitchell, his son Edward Douglas, and his daughter Jennifer Lynn.
Clifford is survived by his children Daniel Christopher Hayes, and Kathleen Palmer, along with Kathleen’s husband, David Wayne Palmer. He leaves behind a legacy in his five grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren, who will all miss him dearly.
Clifford lived a life full of passions and hobbies that brought him joy and contentment. An avid fisherman, he found peace and fulfillment on the water. His love for music was profound, and he especially cherished playing his harmonica and listening to Frank Sinatra’s “My Way.” He was an enthusiastic fan of audiobooks, with a particular fondness for westerns, mysteries, and political thrillers.
Clifford’s home was never without the companionship of his cherished poodles, Susie and Waltimore, who were like family to him. His loyalty to the Saint Louis Cardinals and the Michigan Spartans was unwavering, and he enjoyed many seasons of sportsmanship and camaraderie.
A proud veteran, Clifford served in the United States Air Force for three years, an experience that shaped his character and his life. His sense of duty and patriotism remained with him always.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to a charity of your choice, honoring Clifford’s generous spirit and his commitment to helping others.
Clifford Jerome Hayes will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his love for his family, and his unwavering passions. His legacy will live on through the memories and stories shared by those who knew and loved him.
A Visitation for Clifford will be held Sunday, July 21, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Alexander-White-Mullen Funeral Home, 11101 Saint Charles Rock Road, St. Ann, MO 63074. The Funeral will occur Monday, July 22, 2024 at 10:00 AM at the same location, immediately followed by the Committal at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125.
