A loving husband, he is survived by his wife Alice; mother MaryLou; brothers Doug, Ron and Karl; children Daniel and Mary; grandchildren Alexis, Evelyn, Finley, Caroline and Henry. He moves on to rejoin his father Merlin and son Michael.
Marty got his Bachelor of Science degree from Central Michigan University in Mathematics. After graduating he joined the Air Force where he met Alice while both were stationed at Keesler AFB in Mississippi. They married in July 1973 and during his military service were stationed many places including Lakenheath, England where Michael was born. Then later in Dayton, Ohio where he finished his Masters Degree from the Air Force Institute of Technology and Daniel was born. A little time was spent in Rome, New York where Mary was born. The whole family got to spend 3 years in Wiesbaden, Germany. He last duty station was at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque, New Mexico where he retired as a Major after 20 years of service.
He enjoyed going on Volksmarches and skiing trips in Germany and while in New Mexico helping the boys with their journey in Boy Scouts and Mary in Girl Scouts, youth groups, sports and for a love for bicycling. After retiring he moved to the DC area where he worked on various Government Contacting jobs. He was currently employed at Mitre Corp. He started attending Immanuel Bible Church shortly after moving to the area and quickly got into ushering where he cherished meeting new people and talking to everyone. He took pride in being a leader of Bible Study Fellowship for over 20 years. He always found it rewarding working with this hands early on with wood and more recently in stained glass. His latest and greatest joy was spending time spoiling his grandchildren by taking them on "adventures" and watching them grow.
He touched many people throughout his journey of life and will be missed deeply!
In lieu of flowers please send a donation in his honor to Central Union Mission at www.missiondc.org or give.cru.org.
Services will be held at Immanuel Bible Church on September 16th at 1 pm.
