Virginia Burns

She was born on Nov. 17, 1930 in Portsmouth, OH, the daughter of the late Robert J. and Beulah (Diffen) McCall. She married Ronald Burns on Jan. 9, 1966 in Springfield and they had 58 wonderful years together.

Virginia had worked as an Administrative Assistant for Springfield School District 186. Prior to that she worked at Jefferson Stationers in downtown Springfield. She was a member of West Side Christian Church in Springfield and she volunteered as a room mother when her kids were in grade school in the Roxana, IL school district. She was also involved with the Mrs. Jaycees in Wood River IL.

Besides her husband Ronald, she is survived by 4 children, Charlie Burkham of Amsterdam, Sheri Appleby of Springfield, Debbi Appleby of The Villages, FL, and Lori (husband Larry) Chilton of Brenham, TX; 2 step-children, David (wife Debbie) Burns of Albuquerque, NM, and Mari Beth Crayne of Riverton, IL; 43 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by 2 sons, Robert Appleby and Drew Appleby; 1 sister, Joann Hollingsworth; 3 step-children, John Burns, Cathy Shanks, and Matt Burns.

Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home, Springfield. A graveside funeral service will be held on Monday, June 10, 2024 at 11 am at Roselawn Memorial Park, Springfield.
