She was born November 30, 1910 in Elkhart, IL the daughter of John W. and Leelia (McGee) Council. In 1933, She married Stuart Riefler and he preceded her in death April 9, 1975. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Chester (wife Helen) Council in January 2000.
Mrs. Riefler graduated from Williamsville High School and Illinois Business College. Marguerite began her career with Steiner Dental lab, serving as bookkeeper for 5 years. She was also employed as a bookkeeper for the Milton Dental Lab for 17 years. In February of 1960, she was employed as a teller and typist in the installment loan department at Marine Bank, where she retired with 15 years of service in 1975.
She was a charter member for over 60 years at West Side Christian Church. She faithfully attended the U & I Bible Class which she and her husband helped organize in 1939. She also served as the class social secretary for many years and enjoyed playing the piano. Mrs. Riefler also performed volunteer work at the Lewis Memorial Christian Village.
Marguerite is survived by her nephew, Robert (wife Charity) Council, 3 great nephews, Ken, Christopher (wife Suzanne) and James Council, and 2 great great nieces, Amanda and Alexis Council.
Marguerite was a very special friend to Leila and Gerald Laycock; Anna (Dick) Gathard, was like a step-mother to Sheila (Joe) McCoy and Stephen and Katie Nicholson, was like a grandmother to Michael, Page, and Maggie Nicholson, and to Chloe Hearn, she was like a great grandmother.
Arrangements are under the direction of Bisch and Son Funeral Home 505 E. Allen where visitation will be Friday July 22, 2011 from 9:00 am until time of funeral services there at 11:00 am. Rev. Vaughn Beeman will officiate. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Marguerite's Memory to West Side Christian Church.
