Steven A. Baer, 72, of Springfield, passed away on Saturday November 9, 2024 at Taylorville Memorial Hospital. He was born on July 22, 1952 in Springfield, Illinois to Edward Baer and Helen Worms Baer. Steven married Rhonda Moffett in Springfield on October 16, 1982 and she survives.
Mr. Baer is also survived by his daughter Melissa (Kedric) Busch of Columbia, MO., four grandchildren: Cohen, Sutton, Isaac and Everett Busch and one sister Lesley Duffey of Spaulding. He was preceded in death by two sons: Jonathan Edward Alexander Baer and Michael Ryan Baer, one sister Linda Baer and his parents.
Steven operated the Avenue Food Shop which was the family business from 1974-1987. He was the co- owner of the Pasta House Company in Springfield from 1982-1987 and he was the operator of the Produce Wagon, another family owned business, from 1985 until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of Temple B’Rith Sholom, B’nai B’rith and the Springfield Jewish Federation. Steven previously served on the board of Temple B’Rith Sholom and the board of March of Dimes.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30am on Friday November 15, 2024 at Bisch Funeral Home West, 2931 Koke Mill Road with burial to follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00pm until 7:00pm on Thursday November 14, 2024 at Bisch West.
