Springfield Dominican Sister M. Henrianne Schmidt died November 21, 2023, at Sacred Heart Convent. She was born in 1929, in Jerseyville, IL, to Henry F. and Anna C. (Nee Meyer) Schmidt who gave her the name Anna Marie. She was baptized at St. Francis Xavier Parish, Jerseyville, Ill., and in 1949 made her profession of vows at Sacred Heart Convent.
With the exception of the five years she taught in Duluth, MN, Sister Henrianne’s entire ministry was spent in Illinois, where she taught middle school and junior high—sometimes serving as a parochial school principal—in Chicago, Farmersville, Jerseyville, East St. Louis, Pana, Springfield, East Moline, Hardin, and Aurora. In Aurora, she served at St. Peter School on two different occasions for a total of 15 years. In 2011, when she returned to Sacred Heart Convent, Sister Henrianne kept active, serving as sub prioress, working in the convent library, and visiting the sick in the hospitals. She enjoyed community life, visits with her family, and trips to Carrollton.
Sister Henrianne was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Fred, Joe, Charles, Robert, and Father Henry Schmidt. She is survived by her brother, John; her loving nieces, nephews, and cousins; and her Dominican Sisters.
Visitors are welcome; Visitation: 4:00 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, at the Aquinas Center at Sacred Heart Convent, 1237 W. Monroe St., Springfield, IL 62704. Visitation will begin with a prayer service.
Funeral Mass: 6:30 p.m. on Monday, November 27, 2023, at the Aquinas Center at Sacred Heart Convent with Father Michael DeTemple, OP, celebrant.
